10 Year Automation Journey Ends as JAMB Enables Remote Question Setting

After a decade of progressive digitisation, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has reached the end of its automation roadmap by launching a remote question authoring system that allows test developers to create Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination questions from their homes or offices without needing to travel.

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, disclosed this milestone during a training session for test developers held at the University of Ibadan, describing it as the tenth and final phase of an automation programme that started roughly 10 years ago.

The new system enables question setters across Nigeria to contribute to the UTME question bank remotely, eliminating the logistical burden of physical meetings and centralised authoring sessions that have characterised the process for years.

“We are here at the University of Ibadan to do the last round of our automation process. This phase is about automating the authoring of questions. Our authors can now set questions from their various locations without having to travel across the country,” Prof. Oloyede stated.

He explained that the digitised platform reduces operational costs, shortens production timelines and improves efficiency while keeping strict security protocols in place. According to him, the board has embedded checks and balances into the system to safeguard its integrity and prevent any compromise.

Addressing concerns about access to registration and examination centres, Prof. Oloyede announced that JAMB had increased the number of Computer Based Test centres from approximately 800 in 2025 to over 1,000 in 2026, an expansion designed to ease congestion and improve the candidate experience across the country.

With the completion of this final phase, JAMB’s full examination cycle, from question development to result processing, now operates on a digital framework built over the past decade.
