Economic pressures threatening the ability of thousands of Gombe students to sit the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board examination have been eased following Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s decision to fund 6,000 registration forms across the state.
Education stakeholders have praised the intervention, describing it as crucial relief during a period when many families struggle to afford their children’s examination costs.
Comrade Muhammad Alamin Bako, National President of the Gombe State Students Association, who serves as Senior Adviser to the Governor on Student Affairs representing Gombe North, issued a statement appreciating the governor’s support.
Alamin positioned the initiative as more than financial assistance, framing it as a strategic investment in the future of Gombe youths.
“This initiative is not just about paying examination fees; it is about securing the future of Gombe youths. It demonstrates His Excellency’s passion for education and his desire to see our young people succeed,” Alamin stated.
He described the gesture as a “lifeline” for thousands of families struggling to support their children’s educational ambitions, explaining that the free JAMB forms would significantly ease the financial burden on parents and encourage more students to pursue higher education.
The GOSSA president praised Governor Inuwa Yahaya for sustained investment in the education sector across the state’s 11 local government areas, noting that the intervention reflects the administration’s commitment to human capital development and determination to make education accessible regardless of socioeconomic background.
Alamin disclosed that beneficiaries were carefully selected through a structured process, ensuring support reaches students genuinely requiring assistance, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds across Gombe North, Central, and South Senatorial Districts.
He reaffirmed the association’s continued support for policies and programmes that promote educational advancement and youth empowerment throughout Gombe State.
Observers highlighted that Governor Yahaya’s consistent attention to educational development, including infrastructural improvements, enhanced learning environments, and student support programmes, is establishing Gombe State as an emerging model for educational progress in the North East region.
The 6,000 sponsored registrations represent substantial support for students whose tertiary education ambitions were previously constrained by financial limitations, potentially opening pathways to universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education for young people who might otherwise have missed the 2026 examination cycle.
The initiative adds Gombe to the growing list of Nigerian states where governments have recognised education as fundamental to youth empowerment and stepped forward to sponsor JAMB fees for indigent students during the current registration period.
