General Christopher Musa, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, has earned widespread praise from Kaduna State residents following his decision to sponsor 1,150 underprivileged students for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board examination at no cost.
The humanitarian gesture supports the educational policies championed by both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Uba Sani’s Sustainable Agenda, providing relief to families grappling with financial hardship.
Young people from households ravaged by insecurity, particularly those living in bandit-affected zones, form the core target group of this intervention, offering them hope despite their challenging environments.
The distribution framework allocates 50 slots to each of Kaduna’s 23 local councils, guaranteeing fair coverage throughout the entire state.
Local stakeholders have hailed the timing and relevance of this gesture, noting it removes a significant barrier preventing poor families from accessing higher education opportunities for their wards.
According to observers, this kind of support directly advances the global commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4, which champions universal access to quality learning and educational equity by 2030.
A respected voice within the communities emphasised that such generosity showcases the minister’s devotion to national service, pointing to his distinguished tenure leading Nigeria’s armed forces and his current role in the cabinet as evidence of leadership that transcends divisions.
“Almost everyone has set aside political and tribal differences to support him, as well as the administrations of President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani,” Ibrahim said.
Honourable Mohammed Ibrahim Soba, who represents Soba Local Government in political circles, viewed the development as a powerful symbol of reconciliation and progress.
He stated that interventions of this magnitude had become rare in Kaduna and expressed belief that having a southern Kaduna indigene champion such a cause would reinforce Governor Uba Sani’s drive toward unity, inclusion, and sustainable development in the state.
Selection of qualified candidates will follow established transparent procedures at the grassroots level, with implementation expected to begin soon.
