Governor Mohammed Approves N888 Million to Cover External Exam Fees for Bauchi Students

The Bauchi State Government has released N888,507,400 to cover external examination fees for students in public secondary schools across the state, including Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board registration and Computer Based Test training.

Jalaludeen Usman, Information and Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Ministry of Education, announced this in a statement issued on Friday, explaining that Governor Bala Mohammed approved the funds to support students and ease the financial pressure on parents and guardians.

The intervention covers registration for multiple examinations, including the National Examinations Council, the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies, and JAMB and CBT training.

Usman provided a detailed breakdown of beneficiaries, revealing that 22,646 students would be registered for NECO, 2,064 students for NABTEB, and 207 students for NBAIS, whilst 6,562 students would benefit from JAMB registration and CBT training under the approved funding.

He disclosed that a total of 24,917 students across the state would benefit from the government’s intervention, describing the approval as a strategic investment in education and human capital development that would enhance access to higher education opportunities for students in public schools.

“The Bauchi State Ministry of Education extends its warmest appreciation to Governor Bala Mohammed for finding these students worthy of such a strategic investment,” the statement read.

Usman emphasised that the gesture would significantly ease the burden on parents and guardians whilst empowering thousands of young people to pursue higher education and career opportunities.

The Education Ministry PRO reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving educational outcomes and providing an enabling environment for students to succeed academically.

He stressed that the government remained focused on policies and programmes aimed at strengthening the education sector and ensuring that no eligible student was denied access to examinations due to financial constraints.

The funding comes as thousands of students across Nigeria prepare for external examinations that determine their progression to tertiary institutions, with many families struggling to afford registration costs.

Bauchi State’s intervention joins similar initiatives by other state governments and private organisations across the country who have sponsored examination fees for students during the current academic session.

The approval demonstrates Governor Mohammed’s administration’s practical approach to supporting education at the secondary school level, recognising that access to external examinations remains a critical gateway to higher education and professional development for young Nigerians.
