The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has issued a stern warning to prospective students regarding admission offers into the Law Faculty of Lead City University. The Board disassociated itself from the reported admissions, noting that the institution’s Law programme is currently under a five year suspension.
A statement signed by the Public Communications Adviser, Fabian Benjamin, clarified that the process was not conducted through the Central Admissions Processing System. “The Board states that the reported admissions were not conducted through CAPS. Consequently, such admissions are not recognised by the Board,” the statement said.
JAMB emphasised that admissions not processed through CAPS are not recognised within the official framework. The Board stressed that institutions are expected to comply with existing admission guidelines during suspension periods. It advised prospective students to ensure their admissions are processed through CAPS to avoid complications.
“This development highlights the importance of following official admission procedures. Candidates are advised not to accept admission offers that are not processed through CAPS,” the Board stated.
The Board cautioned that candidates who accept such offers risk facing difficulties with documentation and recognition of their admission status. It also addressed attempts to regularise irregular admissions through inter university transfers. “For a transfer to be valid, the candidate must have been properly admitted in the first instance,” the Board added.
This development follows a petition dated February 19, 2026, addressed to the Director General of the Nigerian Law School by concerned parents. They raised the alarm over what they described as a fraudulent admission exercise by the institution.
“We the parents and guardians of the students admitted into the Faculty of Law, Lead City University, Ibadan, for 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions, are making this passionate appeal to the Council of Legal Education and the management of the Nigerian Law School to save our souls and our children from the selfish, unrepentant and profit making interest of the management of the Faculty of Law,” the petition read.
The parents claimed the university admitted students despite a moratorium imposed by the Council of Legal Education. They alleged that the university management asked affected students to perform “fake transfers” to other faculties while retaining admission letters for Law.
“The university management later convened a meeting of our children and asked them to do fake transfers to other faculties while their admission letters still indicated the Faculty of Law. They told them they would later move them back when the coast is clear,” the petition stated.
The parents urged the newly appointed Director General to intervene immediately. “Madam DG, please save our souls and those of our children by putting an end to this annual fraudulent, unreasonable, and egoistic admission exercise that benefits no one but only the university management,” the petition stated.
