JAMB Demands Real Time Camera Access at Accredited Centres

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has confirmed that it will impose strict sanctions on any accredited centre that fails to remain visible on its central monitoring system. These penalties include the withholding of payment for services rendered and the potential invalidation of registration or examination activities conducted at such facilities.

Disclosing that several centres have already been delisted based on observations from the central monitoring system, the board explained that the move is part of efforts to maintain rigorous standards. This decisive action follows the recent registration exercise, where more than 150 centres were not visible from the control room at the JAMB headquarters, a situation that demanded immediate attention.

Although the board initially considered cancelling all registrations from these affected centres, it ultimately opted for a different approach involving additional scrutiny using enhanced remote monitoring tools rather than outright cancellation.

“Affected centres were subsequently called to a meeting and given an ultimatum to resolve their technical issues,” JAMB disclosed.

Through a bulletin released on Monday, the board underscored the necessity for all centres engaged in registration and examination activities to ensure their surveillance cameras are fully accessible and operational. The footage must be viewable in real time from the JAMB control room to avoid penalties.

“Any of the 989 accredited centres where registration or examination activities cannot be monitored in real time may have such activities declared invalid,” the board stated. “Affected centres also risk not being paid for their services.”

Furthermore, the board issued a specific warning regarding the conduct of examinations. It noted that any centre that becomes unviewable from the monitoring desk during the exercise would face immediate delisting.

“Payment will only be made after compliance is confirmed,” JAMB stated.

The board revealed that the warning was issued due to the critical importance of real time monitoring. This system allows the board to detect irregularities during both registration and examinations, facilitating prompt corrective action when necessary. In recent years, the board has introduced several reforms, including computer based testing and centralised oversight systems, specifically to curb malpractice and improve the overall efficiency and integrity of the examination process.
