JAMB Refuses Candidate Refunds Over Delayed UTME Result Checks

Candidates who incurred charges while attempting to access their 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination results will not receive refunds, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has declared, as the board faced criticism over a prolonged delay in releasing results for the Friday, 17 April sitting.

JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin dismissed the refund demands outright, arguing that the board had not officially announced the release of the results when candidates attempted to check.

“Why would you say they deduct money for something that has not been released? When we release results, we will tell Nigerians. So what refunds are you talking about? If they check, how is that supposed to be our business?” Benjamin stated.

The spokesperson had on Saturday posted on X that results would be available before midnight, urging followers to monitor his page for updates. The board, however, failed to meet that deadline, prompting a public apology on Sunday.

“Our Chief Executive was unavailable due to an important engagement but would be in the office today, and we assure you that the results will be released later today, surely before nightfall,” Benjamin disclosed, adding: “We also extend our heartfelt apologies to those who stayed up waiting for the release. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

Despite the apology, the results were not released as promised before nightfall. Benjamin subsequently posted on X on Sunday evening, assuring candidates that the Friday results would be made available within hours.

When contacted separately, Benjamin noted that JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede had travelled to Lagos for an engagement but had since returned to Abuja, and that result processing would proceed shortly. He maintained that the release of examination results is a sensitive exercise that cannot be handled by any other official in the registrar’s absence.

“The result is a very sensitive matter. It’s not something he can delegate. But he is back now. We are going to release the result soon,” Benjamin affirmed.
