One of the common errors that occurs amongst Jambites (JAMB candidates) is making the wrong selection for their subject combination. As the registration for UTME 2026/2027 is on the verge of commencing on 31st January 2026, we do not want you to make this mistake as well. If you are a Chemical Engineering aspirant, find out the subject combination required from you and other requirements here.
JAMB Subject Combination for Chemical Engineering 2026/2027
To gain admission into Chemical Engineering, candidates must register for the following four subjects in their JAMB UTME:
- English Language or Use of English is compulsory for all candidates writing UTME
- Mathematics, as one of the subjects to combine, is critical for solving engineering related problems
- Candidates require Physics for the understanding of the principles of energy and motion in processes
- Chemistry, being central to studying reactions and material properties in engineering, is also needed
O’Level Requirements for Chemical Engineering
As a Chemical Engineering aspirant, you will only be admitted by JAMB if you meet all requirements, including possessing a minimum of 5 credits in your SSCE, WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, GCE, or any other equivalent qualification. The minimum credit passes must be in the following subjects;
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
- One other Science subject (e.g., Biology, Further Mathematics, or Technical Drawing).
The maximum number of O’Level which these credits must be obtained is two.
Qualifications for Direct Entry Candidates
Candidates applying via direct entry must meet any of the following qualifications:
- A’Level: Passes in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
- ND or HND: A diploma in a related engineering or science discipline with a good grade.
- B.Sc.: A first degree in a related science or engineering field may also be accepted.
Duration of Chemical Engineering Program 2026
The program typically spans 5 years, leading to a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree. Graduates often proceed to internships or national service (NYSC) before entering the workforce or both.
