Engineering has always been about solving real-world problems, but Systems Engineering takes it a step further as it solves complex problems using the combination of engineering principles, systems thinking, and management science to design, optimize, and manage large-scale systems.

If you’re a student with a flair for both logic and coordination, and you’re aiming to work in high-level tech, government, or industrial planning roles, here is one of the academic journey to pursue. However, to secure admission into an institution to study it, you need to first of all know and meet the JAMB cut-off mark which we will be helping you achieve here.

General JAMB Cut-Off Mark for Systems Engineering

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation board (JAMB) has decided on 140 as the general benchmark for university aspirants seeking admission into System Engineering. The benchmark has been lowered to 100 for candidates seeking admission into

For top universities like the University of Lagos (UNILAG), which is currently the leading provider of Systems Engineering in Nigeria, you’ll need to score at least 230 and above for a realistic chance at admission.

  • Two A-Level passes in Mathematics and Physics
  • ND or HND in Engineering/Technology with good results
  • First degree in a related discipline (for advanced entry)

How to Improve Your Admission Chances

Regardless of your stance on the admission, you can so much improve your chances of getting admitted through the tips highlighted below:

  • Aim for a JAMB score of 230 or higher, especially for federal universities.
  • Choose the right subject combination and university in your JAMB form.
  • Perform strongly in Post-UTME or screening exercises.
  • Double-check the course availability and specific departmental requirements.
  • Prepare your O’Level results and other documentation ahead of time.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. It is a specialized course available in select universities, often as a standalone department or a sub-option within other engineering programs.

UNILAG typically requires a JAMB score between 230 and 250 due to high competition and limited admission slots.

Possibly, but only at private or less competitive universities like Bells University or Babcock University. Federal universities usually demand higher scores.

Yes. It includes modules on control systems, simulation, automation, and often requires knowledge of programming languages like Python, MATLAB, or C++.

Graduates work in project management, automation, tech consulting, manufacturing, IT systems design, logistics, and aerospace industries.

It typically lasts five years (UTME route), including one year of industrial training (SIWES).

Yes, most universities will either conduct Post-UTME exams or use a screening method to evaluate candidates beyond JAMB scores.

You can consider: changing to a related course (e.g., Mechanical or Electrical Engineering), switching institutions, or enrolling in a pre-degree or foundation program

No. While they share similarities, Systems Engineering focuses more on integrating entire systems—technological, human, and process components.

Yes. Some institutions and external bodies offer scholarships for engineering students with high academic performance.
