The South East Renewed Hope Agenda has expanded its massive JAMB scholarship programme to Imo State, providing 10,000 free registration slots to indigent students in continuation of a region wide initiative targeting 50,000 beneficiaries.
The initiative was launched in Owerri on Thursday, marking another phase of the programme that has already reached students in other South East states, including Ebonyi and Enugu.
National Coordinator of SERHA, Belusochukwu Enwere, explained that the 50,000 scholarship package will be shared equally among Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo, with each state receiving 10,000 slots to cover the full cost of JAMB registration.
Enwere described the scheme as backed by President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to remove financial barriers that prevent families from securing higher education opportunities for their children. He noted that beneficiaries can access the NELFUND loan scheme for school fees once admitted.
“Each scholarship covers the full cost of JAMB registration, giving 10,000 deserving students per state the chance to step confidently into university or polytechnic,” Enwere stated.
He urged the South East region to harness the scholarships to develop future leaders, engineers, doctors, and innovators who will drive Nigeria’s economic growth.
Addressing beneficiaries at the event, Enwere delivered an inspiring message about the opportunities created by the programme.
“President Tinubu, in his wisdom, has made education a cornerstone of the Renewed Hope Agenda. From the Student Loan Scheme to infrastructure revamps in our schools, his administration is weaving a tapestry of progress that includes every region, every tribe, every child. This scholarship is your launchpad. Seize it with both hands. Study with passion, dream with audacity, and remember that your success is Nigeria’s success,” Enwere declared.
The Owerri event drew a large number of young secondary school leavers and SSS3 students, alongside government officials, traditional rulers, and private sector partners, who witnessed the distribution.
Akor Peters from Ahiazu Mbaise, who attended the ceremony on crutches, thanked the organisers for their gesture and pledged his commitment to studying hard and passing the examination.
SERHA pledged to monitor and mentor recipients across all states to ensure the scholarships produce tangible academic results and career success.
