Amid growing public interest in top scores from the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has moved to correct a dangerous falsehood, declaring that a result slip widely shared online and linked to a candidate named Okon Winnifred Sampson is entirely fabricated.
JAMB spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, disclosed that the document, which has been circulating on social media as evidence of a 396 score, was produced on a fake template and fails to meet any of the board’s standard result formats. He expressed concern over the speed at which the document spread among otherwise well informed Nigerians.
The board outlined two specific indicators that expose the slip as fraudulent. The first centres on how JAMB results are currently structured. All 2026 UTME results remain view only, meaning they are accessible strictly through official channels and cannot be printed or distributed as standalone documents. Any slip appearing in a shareable format is therefore automatically inconsistent with the board’s process.
“Firstly, the Board has clearly stated that UTME results are view only. The circulated document appears on a fabricated result template, which, on its own, is a sufficient indication that it is not authentic,” Benjamin disclosed.
The second indicator relates to the registration number visible on the circulated slip. JAMB registration numbers are system generated and follow a specific format. The pattern “20269” appearing on the fake document does not align with that format.
“Secondly, the Board’s registration numbers are system generated and do not follow the pattern ‘20269’ as seen on the fake slip. There are several other inconsistencies that, even at a glance, expose the result as fraudulent,” he revealed.
Benjamin reinforced that, beyond these two indicators, several additional inconsistencies exist within the document that further confirm its inauthenticity.
JAMB cautioned candidates, parents, and the general public against relying on unverified content for examination updates, particularly as anticipation builds around the official release of 2026 UTME results. The board directed everyone to consult only its official platforms for accurate and verified information.
“The public is strongly advised to disregard this fake result and rely only on official channels for accurate information. All results at the moment are view only,” Benjamin added.
