The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has partnered with the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, to strengthen its archives, library, and gallery management in line with international best practices, with plans already concluded to construct a modern complex at its national headquarters in Abuja.

The JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, announced the collaboration during an expanded management meeting, attended by a delegation from the Ghanaian university.

Oloyede said the board had concluded arrangements to build a befitting archives, library, and gallery complex at its Abuja headquarters following recommendations from a visitation team led by the Director of Quality Assurance, Hon Danladi Muhammed, after a study visit to the University of Cape Coast.

He disclosed that the board established its in house archives approximately four years ago with support from the National Archives of Nigeria, and that the facility, currently managed under the Quality Assurance Department, would be upgraded through the partnership and relocated to a more suitable facility.

The registrar also revealed that the board currently operates two libraries, an academic library at the Test Development Department and an administrative library at its headquarters, both of which would be integrated into the proposed complex.

He framed the collaboration as a knowledge sharing exercise rather than an admission of institutional gaps. “Their invitation was part of the existing inter university partnership aimed at sharing ideas with the Board. JAMB believes in the axiom that two good heads are better than one,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the University of Cape Coast delegation, Acting Deputy University Librarian Dr Gloria Tachie Donkor praised the board for adopting benchmarking as a strategy for institutional development. She recommended a comprehensive implementation roadmap backed by quality architectural designs, digital technologies, operational manuals, and sustainable funding to guarantee the long term success of the project.

The partnership is expected to strengthen the board’s capacity in records preservation, knowledge management, and institutional documentation while promoting the adoption of global standards in archive and library administration.
