An education technology platform developed in Anambra State is reportedly helping Nigerian students achieve exceptional scores in JAMB, WAEC, and post UTME examinations, with some users recording scores of 350 and above.
Emeka Ejeziem, the Anambra based education entrepreneur behind Prep50, revealed in an interview with South East Punch on Monday that the app emerged not as a tech concept but as a practical solution to problems he observed among UTME candidates over several years.
The story of Prep50 traces back to 2014, when Ejeziem’s organization operated a private JAMB Computer Based Test centre in Onitsha, bringing him into direct contact with thousands of examination candidates.
“From 2016, when JAMB fully adopted CBT nationwide, the centre came into close contact with candidates and witnessed the panic, confusion, and lack of preparedness that many students displayed inside the examination hall,” Ejeziem recalled.
He explained that beyond academic gaps, many candidates struggled with fundamental aspects of the examination process itself.
“Beyond academic weakness, many candidates struggled with basic CBT navigation, time management, and understanding of exam interfaces inside the exam hall. Some candidates didn’t even know they could scroll to see hidden questions on the screen, and others were stuck on the first page,” he disclosed.
Deeper investigation revealed systemic challenges, including overreliance on poorly structured past questions, absence of proper CBT practice tools, and significant content gaps between available textbooks and the actual JAMB syllabus.
Ejeziem responded by adopting what he described as a “topic by topic learning model” by restructuring past questions from as far back as 1978 into clearly defined topics and subtopics strictly aligned with the JAMB syllabus.
“This approach allows students to master one concept at a time, rather than attempting to learn dozens of topics within a few hours,” he explained.
The platform has since evolved beyond books into a comprehensive ecosystem featuring a mobile learning app and online tutorials. The app contains structured lesson notes designed to cover every possible JAMB question within each topic, CBT simulations that mirror the real exam environment, and performance tracking tools to help students build speed and confidence.
Ejeziem disclosed that Prep50 is introducing an AI powered learning feature into its app, leveraging curated UTME and SSCE data spanning decades to create personalized study plans based on a student’s strengths and weaknesses.
The platform operates under the tagline “Pass without cheating,” emphasizing ethical success in examination preparation.
