JAMB Set to Release Results Under Investigation on or Before 20 May, 2024
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has placed some of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results under investigation following widespread allegations of irregularities. This move has sparked concerns among students, parents, and educational stakeholders across the nation.
In a statement released on Tuesday, JAMB’s Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, announced that the board is thoroughly reviewing the results to ensure the integrity of the examination process.
“We have received numerous reports and complaints regarding potential malpractice and irregularities during the conduct of the 2024 UTME. As a result, we have decided to place the results under investigation to uphold the credibility of our examinations,” Oloyede stated.
The investigation follows numerous reports from candidates and examination centers alleging various forms of malpractice, including cheating, use of unauthorized devices, and discrepancies in the marking process.
Several examination centers have been identified as hotspots for these irregularities, prompting JAMB to initiate a comprehensive audit of their activities during the examination period.
Candidates who took the 2024 UTME have expressed mixed reactions to the news. While some are supportive of JAMB’s decision to ensure fairness and transparency, others are anxious about the potential delay in the release of their results and its impact on their admission process.
“I am glad that JAMB is taking these allegations seriously and working to ensure that the results are fair. However, I am also worried about how long this investigation will take and how it will affect my chances of gaining admission this year,” said Adaobi Chukwu, a UTME candidate from Lagos.
Educational experts and advocacy groups have also weighed in on the situation. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for a swift and thorough investigation to ensure that innocent candidates are not unduly penalized.
“We commend JAMB for taking steps to address these issues, but we urge them to expedite the investigation process to minimize the impact on students,” NANS President, Sunday Asefon, remarked.
In response to the situation, JAMB has assured the public that the investigation will be conducted transparently and that necessary measures will be taken to sanction any individuals or centers found culpable. The board has also called on candidates and stakeholders to remain calm and patient as they work to resolve the issue.
Results Under Investigation Release Date
The 2024 UTME results will be release on or before 20 May, 2024. JAMB has pledged to provide regular updates to keep candidates and the public informed of the progress.
This incident has reignited discussions about the need for reforms in Nigeria’s examination system to curb malpractice and enhance the credibility of the nation’s education sector. As the investigation unfolds, many are hopeful that JAMB’s actions will lead to a more robust and transparent examination process in the future.
For now, candidates and their families await further announcements from JAMB, hoping for a swift resolution to the ongoing investigation.
