Five hundred students from Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area have secured free access to the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination following a council sponsored intervention aimed at supporting indigent candidates.
The beneficiaries received their forms yesterday at the Ikorodu North LCDA Council Secretariat after undergoing a comprehensive screening process designed to identify genuinely qualified and financially disadvantaged students across the area.
Mayor Ameen Olawale Ibrahim, the Executive Chairman of the council, explained during the presentation ceremony that the initiative responds to the financial pressures many families face when trying to register their children for tertiary institution entrance examinations.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to educational development and youth empowerment, describing the intervention as part of broader efforts to create pathways for academically promising students who might otherwise be excluded from higher education due to economic constraints.
The chairman emphasised that education remains a vital instrument for community growth, social mobility, and economic transformation, stressing that his government would continue to invest in programmes that uplift young people within Ikorodu North.
The distribution process followed a transparent screening exercise meant to ensure fairness and credibility in selecting beneficiaries. Education stakeholders, community leaders, parents, and well wishers attended the ceremony, commending the council for what they described as a laudable intervention.
Residents who witnessed the presentation described the initiative as both timely and impactful, particularly given the approaching registration deadline of 26th February 2026, which JAMB has repeatedly stated will not be extended under any circumstances.
They urged beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity by preparing thoroughly and excelling in their examinations, thereby becoming worthy ambassadors of Ikorodu North LCDA.
The 500 free JAMB forms represent a significant investment in human capital development at the grassroots level, widening access to higher education for students who demonstrated academic potential but lacked the financial means to register independently.
The initiative joins similar efforts across various Nigerian states and local governments where public officials and private individuals have sponsored JAMB registrations to reduce barriers preventing young people from accessing tertiary education opportunities.
With registration entering its final week, the Ikorodu North intervention provides crucial relief to hundreds of families who would have struggled to afford the examination costs for their children.
