It’s important to clarify that “Civil Law” isn’t a standalone undergraduate degree program offered in the same way as, say, “Law (LLB).” In Nigeria, the standard undergraduate law degree is the Bachelor of Laws (LLB). Therefore, we will provide the JAMB subject combination for a general Law (LLB) program, which encompasses civil law as a major component in this guide.

JAMB Subject Requirements for Civil Law 2025

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Examination Board has approved the following UTME subjects to be the requirements to study Civil Law in a Nigerian university:

  1. Use of English
  2. Literature in English
  3. Government
  4. Any other Social Science subject

O’Level Requirements (WAEC, NECO, NABTEB)

Candidates are expected to have a certain number of credit passes in their O’Level:

  • Five (5) credit passes, including:
    • English Language
    • Literature in English
    • Government
    • Any other two subjects, preferably from the Social Sciences or Arts.
