The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and Rite Foods Limited will on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, host the Maiden Academic Excellence Recognition Award Ceremony in Lagos, where seven outstanding Nigerian undergraduates will each receive ₦5 million in recognition of their academic performance during the 2025 admission exercise.
The seven recipients were selected through a merit based process coordinated by JAMB. Six of the awardees represent the six geopolitical zones of the country, while the seventh award is reserved for the highest performing admitted candidate living with a disability.
The winning candidates emerge from the following institutions: University of Lagos (South West Zonal Winner), University of Uyo (South South Zonal Winner), Federal University of Technology, Owerri (South East Zonal Winner), Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia (North West Zonal Winner), University of Maiduguri (North East Zonal Winner), and Federal University of Technology, Minna (North Central Zonal Winner). The candidate recognised under the disability category also comes from the University of Lagos, making it the only institution producing two award recipients at this maiden edition.
Each recipient distinguished themselves through exceptional performance in both the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and the Post UTME or institutional screening exercises conducted by their admitting universities.
Rite Foods Limited is the sponsor of the initiative, which both organisations say reflects their shared commitment to promoting academic excellence, rewarding merit and inspiring young Nigerians to pursue educational achievement.
The ceremony is expected to draw 300 distinguished guests from Nigeria’s education sector, government, academia and the corporate community. Expected dignitaries include the Minister of Education, former JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, vice chancellors of the award winning candidates’ universities, vice chancellors of universities in Lagos State, and executive secretaries of key regulatory agencies, including the National Universities Commission, the National Board for Technical Education and the National Commission for Colleges of Education. Principal officers of tertiary institutions, education stakeholders, development partners, corporate leaders, students and members of the media are also expected to attend.
