Governor Zulum Promises N1 Billion Investment for JAMB Facilities in Maiduguri

Governor Babagana Zulum has committed to funding the construction of a Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board zonal office and Computer Based Test centre in Maiduguri, pledging nearly N1 billion for the project.

At the flag off ceremony held on Monday along Maiduguri Dikwa Road, Governor Zulum shared his vision for these facilities, detailed the projected costs, and assured stakeholders that his administration would ensure full payment for the project.

“I promised that in each of the senatorial zones of the state, we shall establish a CBT Centre. The zonal office will cost N667 million, while the CBT Centre will cost N330 million. The job will be completed very soon, and the government shall make all the payments,” Governor Zulum declared.

The governor explained that his administration’s investment stems from the need for Borno to keep pace with JAMB’s digital transformation, emphasising the state’s determination to contribute meaningfully to educational advancement.

Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, commended the governor’s initiative during the ceremony, calling the proposed project one of the finest multicentre CBT infrastructures in Nigeria.

The JAMB boss revealed impressive technical specifications for the proposed facility, explaining how it would revolutionise examination access for candidates across the North East region once completed.

“The centre will have 275 computers inside and 275 computers in the other section, which means at any given time, 500 students can write an exam. It also means that JAMB will be able to clear 2000 students within two days with the facility,” Professor Oloyede stated.

He disclosed that the zonal office would serve Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States, with the planned facilities including a Professional Registration Centre where students could register and proceed directly to examination halls.

Professor Oloyede expressed deep appreciation for Governor Zulum’s educational commitments, describing it as the kind of leadership Nigeria requires for progress. He offered prayers for the governor’s continued empowerment amidst widespread celebration of his contributions.

Reports indicate that Governor Zulum has allocated land for the project and directed the Borno State Geographic Information Service to issue a Certificate of Occupancy, aiming to bridge gaps in merit and catchment area quotas in federal tertiary institutions for Borno residents.

The facility, when completed, is expected to significantly reduce the burden on candidates who currently travel long distances to access JAMB services in the region.
