Benue Governor Pays JAMB Fees for 400 University Students, Inspects New Hostels

Four hundred pre-degree and remedial students at Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology in Ihugh will write the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination free of charge following Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s approval of their registration sponsorship.

The announcement was made during the governor’s inspection visit to the newly established university, where he assessed progress on ongoing hostel construction and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming education in the state.

Chief Solomon Iorpev, Technical Adviser to the Governor on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, disclosed this in a statement released yesterday, explaining that the gesture aims to encourage students to pursue higher education and make meaningful contributions to the state’s development.

Governor Alia expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the hostel facilities during his tour, emphasising that his government remains committed to providing quality education infrastructure for Benue residents.

The governor stressed that education is a fundamental catalyst for development, noting his administration’s determination to maximise its potential in driving comprehensive transformation across the state.

Alia highlighted the importance of quality education for Benue’s growth, pointing to its critical role in advancing agriculture and entrepreneurship within the state.

He mentioned the recent launch of the Building Rights to Access and Compulsory Education for Unenrolled Pupils project, which aims to ensure that every school age child in Benue has access to education.

The governor described the BRACE UP project as a vital element of his administration’s strategy to promote education and alleviate poverty throughout the state.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Governor Alia encouraged students to maximise the opportunities presented to them, including the JAMB UTME registration sponsorship, urging them to pursue their academic aspirations and eventually contribute to Benue’s advancement.

The sponsorship covers the complete cost of JAMB registration for all 400 students enrolled in pre-degree and remedial programmes at BUAST, removing financial obstacles that might have prevented them from sitting the examination.

The intervention demonstrates the Benue State Government’s practical approach to supporting education at multiple levels, from ensuring school age children enrol through the BRACE UP initiative to facilitating access to tertiary education through JAMB sponsorship programmes.

BUAST, established as part of Governor Alia’s education expansion agenda, represents the administration’s commitment to creating specialised institutions that address the state’s agricultural and technological development needs.
