Traditional structures across Zamfara State have enabled the AUG Foundation to sponsor the registration for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination for 200 students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Malam Abdulhafiz Umar Barau (Dan Isan Gusau / Magayakin Tsafe), who founded the organisation, designed the selection process to operate through the emirate councils of Gusau, Bungudu, Maru, Tsafe, Dansadau, and Kwatarkwashi, ensuring transparency and equitable representation across communities.
The Foundation does more than offer financial help. It also closely oversees the registration process to make sure every beneficiary is properly documented and faces no obstacles or delays.
Comrade Abdul Bala Gusau, State Coordinator representing the founder during the Gusau registration exercise, revealed that exceptional performers may receive further support through the Foundation’s scholarship programme.
“This initiative is part of our broader educational support programme. We are ensuring that no qualified student in Zamfara is denied the opportunity to pursue tertiary education due to financial constraints,” Comrade Gusau stated.
He explained that working through emirate councils was deliberately chosen to prevent exclusion and guarantee grassroots participation throughout the state.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the organisation, stating that the support inspired hope in students who were considering giving up on their university dreams due to their families’ financial struggles.
They noted that the gesture extends beyond monetary relief, providing renewed confidence that their academic aspirations remain achievable despite economic hardship.
The AUG Foundation implements programmes in education, healthcare, food security, and direct financial assistance for vulnerable populations across Zamfara State, with founder Malam Abdulhafiz Umar Barau positioning the organisation as committed to addressing barriers that prevent young people from accessing opportunities that could transform their lives and contribute to the state’s development.
